Postcard 002– Feb. 20th, 2024 (Time difference)

First night in Korea. It was quite the drive from Incheon Airport to Seoul, or more specifically, to Anam.

Once we arrived at the dorms, we were dropped off and had to lug all our bags uphill in the dark. Looking back, it’s hilarious: ten of us rolling giant suitcases in both hands, heavy backpacks digging into our shoulders, trailing behind one another like lost ducklings trying not to trip on one another. And, none of us really knew where we were going.

Eventually, we made it to Anam International House, one of the global dorms at Korea University. I got room 410 and weirdly, 10 is my lucky number. Even luckier? I met my roommate, and she’s amazing. Considering I moved across the world and got paired at random… it was perfect.

We were exhausted, but I managed a quick shower before bed. The dorm let us borrow bedding, but no pillow so my trusty neck pillow from the plane came in clutch.

In South Korea, it seems top/bottom sheets aren’t really a thing. There was a thin padded mat over the mattress and just the comforter. A small adjustment, but one of those details I found interesting.

Also… huge shoutout to my friend for suggesting to pack a roll of toilet paper. The dorm didn’t have any, so we were officially the “bathroom dorm” for the night until we hit the convenience store the next day.

I went to bed with a smile on my face, jet-lag had nothing on me (yet). Orientation was in the morning. Korea was outside my window. And I was just getting started.

Until the next one,

Ashley 💌
