5 Things to Know About the Korean Subway

The Seoul subway? A certified cultural experience: spotless, fast, cheap, and oddly comforting.
Here are a few quick things I learned along the way 👇
1. It’s basically perfect.
Clean stations, punctual trains, fun music, and even public bathrooms. Once you ride it, every other subway will disappoint.
2. Your T-Money card is everything.
Just tap and go... it works for subways, buses, even convenience stores. Load it with cash and never leave your dorm without it.
3. There’s an unspoken code.
No loud talking, no food, no pink-seat stealing. Everyone quietly follows the rules and you should too.
4. Rush hour is chaos.
Between 8-9 a.m. and around 5 p.m., it’s wall-to-wall commuters. Move fast, hold on tight, and channel your inner local.
5. People-watching is unmatched.
You’ll see students, families, and businessmen all sharing the same quiet space — it’s a little snapshot of daily life in Seoul.
That’s just the start... The Study Abroad in Korea Survival Kit dives deeper into etiquette, apps, maps, and the hidden gems inside Seoul’s subway system.
Until the next one,
